Personalized Shtenders: Engraving, Monograms, and Dedication Options
A personalized shtender turns a regular learning piece into something the recipient keeps for life. Most people order one for a bar mitzvah, a chosson, a rebbi, or a sibling wrapping up a mesechta. The add-ons are usually a name, a date, and a short dedication.
This post walks through the three personalization options at ZStander, what each one costs in time, and the Hebrew-text mistake that's caused every reorder we've ever done.
The three ways to personalize a shtender
Every shtender on our site can be personalized one of three ways. A laser-engraved name or monogram on the front panel. A full dedication plaque with multiple lines of Hebrew or English. Custom color accents on select tabletop and floor models.
Engraving's the most common. A full dedication's what people pick for bigger life-cycle gifts.
Laser-engraved names and monograms
Laser engraving on lucite looks clean because the cut sits inside the material instead of on the surface. It doesn't wear off. It doesn't yellow.
You pick the name or initials. You pick the font (block Hebrew, traditional Hebrew, or serif English). You pick the placement, either front center or front lower right.
We handle engraving on the Deluxe Tabletop Shtender, Basic Tabletop Shtender, and Full-Length Lucite Shtender.
Tack on about five to seven business days to the usual turnaround if you're adding engraving.
Dedication plaques for life-cycle gifts
A dedication plaque is what you want when the shtender's a bar mitzvah, chosson, or yahrzeit gift. It's usually three to five lines:
- Line 1: “Lichvod [recipient]” or “Presented to...”
- Line 2 or 3: The occasion and date (English or Hebrew)
- Line 4 or 5: The giver or family name
For a yahrzeit or memorial gift, the standard opener is “Lizecher nishmas...” followed by the name of the niftar and the date.
Dedication plaques add about ten business days to the build. If the gift date's tight, message us with your text before checking out and we'll confirm we can hit it.
Custom color and design touches
A smaller set of our shtenders allow color accents, usually on the base or edges. That's popular with bar mitzvah boys who want their yeshiva colors, or with shuls commissioning a piece for a chaver.
For bigger custom projects, say a shul ordering six matching shtenders for the front of the beis medrash, we handle those as custom quotes. Message us through the contact form on the Lucite Shtenders collection page and we'll reply inside a business day.
Who each option fits
- Bar mitzvah gift: engraved name and short dedication on a Deluxe Tabletop Shtender. The bochur uses it for years. For pairing ideas, see our bar mitzvah shtender gift guide.
- Chosson gift: his full name in Hebrew plus the wedding date. The Full-Length Lucite Shtender works if he's already got a learning corner planned. Pair with something from the Wedding collection for a couple gift.
- Rebbi or mentor gift: full dedication plaque with the talmidim's names, on either tabletop.
- Yahrzeit or memorial: dedication plaque, tabletop or floor, no color accents.
The one mistake people make
The mistake's sending us the Hebrew text by describing it over the phone. Hebrew engraving's cut character by character, and a missing yud or a wrong vav won't get caught on our side because we can't know what you meant.
Always email or message the exact Hebrew text the way you want it engraved. Copy and paste from a document. We'll send a proof back before anything gets cut.
Turnaround and shipping
Name engraving alone runs about seven to ten business days. A dedication plaque runs ten to fourteen. Custom color or design work runs two to four weeks, quoted project by project.
U.S. orders ship from our warehouse. International shipping's available but it does add time.
How to order
On any shtender product page, pick the personalization add-on before you check out. If you don't see the option, message us through the contact form and we'll send a custom link.
